Tuesday, October 1st

Wow - how is it already OCTOBER?? We have had a great first month of Kindergarten and are learning lots!

Today we went to the Learning Commons and some of us got to pick out a new book! Reminder that you can keep this book at home for a week. There are many things you can do with your child's book at home to extend their learning. Take a moment before reading to look through the pictures.

These are some other questions you can ask to help facilitate discussion and understanding:
  • Before Reading:
    • Why did you choose this book? Did you choose it because it is about (trains, cats, etc)?
    • Did you like the picture on the front?
    • What could this book be about? What do you think happens in the story?
  • During Reading:
    • What has happened so far?
    • What might happen next?
    • How do you think the story might end?
    • Ask about events in the story: How would you feel if you had been that character? Has anything like that happened to you?
  • After Reading:
    • What was your favourite/least favourite part? Why?
    • What was the most interesting/exciting part of the book? Can you find it?
    • Why did that character do… (give a situation/event from the story)?
    • Does this story remind you of anything that has happened to you?
    • Could this story be true? Why or why not?
    • Did you like the main character? Why or Why not?

We finished colouring our Orange Shirts from yesterday and then practiced cutting and gluing them into our visual journals. Miss Aebli's group had centre time. Miss Schafer's AM group had both gym and music. Now that we are done learning the "Get Up" dance - ask your child what they are learning with Mrs. O and Mrs. Fatica.

Miss Schafer's PM group learned about important things like promises, respect, and inclusion. Together they made their class promise and signed it with their painted handprint!
