All students had time to exchange their library book at the Learning Commons today.
We are starting something exciting! We are beginning to learn letters and letter sounds. Miss Aebli's group started by learning uppercase "F". Ask your child what sound F makes, and if they can remember any words that start with F!
After practicing the "ff" sound and brainstorming F words, students had a chance to practice writing the letter F in their journals. They did great! We will learn the lowercase letter at another time. Miss Schafer's classes will do this lesson tomorrow (PM) or Friday (AM).
We will not be learning letters in alphabetical order, but rather in a developmentally appropriate sequence that is planned to help children learn writing skills in the easiest and most efficient way. The first group of letters are known as the "Frog Jump" letters - where there is one big line from top to bottom at the left. The writer then "jumps" their pencil up to make the next line/s.
The order of letters that will be learned is below (in case you want to review at home).
Miss Schafer's AM group read a story and practiced a quick yoga flow before going to music and gym. Miss Aebli's group had centre time after they printed their letter Fs. The PM group did yoga, a math game, and had centre time.
There are many new centres! Ask your child what centre they went to today and if they can remember all the new centres.
