Monday, February 24th

Happy Monday!

Today we talked about a new math word! We learned that something is SYMMETRICAL when two sides of it are the same. We know that we can find symmetry in shapes and various objects in our world. We read a book, watched a video, and then took a closer look at images to learn more about symmetry. Students were shown the pictures and tasked with finding and then drawing the line of symmetry (see below). We learned that the line of symmetry is the imaginary line showing where two sides are the same. The line of symmetry can go from side to side (left to right) or up and down, and sometimes diagonal (like a slide)!

Look for symmetrical objects in your home and see if your child can point out where the line of symmetry would be! We will continue talking more about symmetry this week, which will help students with a special art piece that we will be working on soon!

Next students were given basic shapes to complete, following the line of symmetry and doing their best to copy the other half so that it was the SAME as the side already drawn. Some of the shapes were tricky but everyone tried their best and did a great job!

Miss Aebli's class went to gym this morning! We played a number game and a tag game. Mrs. G's AM class explored centres. The PM group has gym as well with Mrs. O!

REMINDERS:

Scientists in Schools will be delivering their "Winter Wonders" workshop this week! Miss Aebli's group will go tomorrow morning. The PM class will have their session tomorrow as well. Mrs. G's AM class will have their session on Wednesday morning.
