Monday, February 3rd

Welcome to February! We have an exciting month ahead! We're sure February will FLY by and it will be Spring Break before you know it!

February is KINDNESS month in Kindergarten! We will be focusing on love, friendship, inclusion, and all things related to kindness. We will be reading a story each day that goes along with one of these themes. Please ask your child about the kindness story of the day, each day. What was it about? How did the characters show kindness? Was anyone un-kind in the story? How did that make the other characters feel? Why is it so important to be kind?

Miss Aebli's students were introduced to our Kindness Month challenge today! Mrs. G's classes will be introduced to this tomorrow. Students have been challenged to perform 100 acts of kindness! We will keep track of our acts of kindness. How long do you think it will take to do 100 kind things?

All students started off their day by doing some Mindful Monday YOGA! Yoga is a good way to calm our bodies and minds to prepare ourselves for learning.

After yoga we read a winter story. Students were then asked to share their WINTER WONDERS! We learned that a wonder is like a question - it is something you want to know, or something you are curious about. These wonders will help to guide some of our next learning. Our students are very curious about winter! Some of their winter wonders are:

How long does the ice stay?
How does it snow?
Why does it snow and then stop snowing and then snow again?
How do icicles fall to the ground?
Why are icicles pointy?
What do deer eat in winter?
Do some animals go somewhere warm in winter?
Why does a rabbit change colour in the winter?
Why do some animals hibernate?
Do birds hibernate?
Why do polar bears live on ice?
Is ice made of water?
How does water freeze and become ice?

Miss Aebli's group had gym with Mrs. O as well as a buddy class today. It was their first day of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! This is a very exciting gym activity and we are sure students will come home very excited to talk about it! Mrs. G's AM group had centre time. There are a few new centres! Ask your child what they are and what centre they went to. The PM group also had gym and got to play Mission Impossible!

At the end of the morning/afternoon we celebrated JANUARY birthdays (a bit late - oops ☺) by singing Happy Birthday, dancing a birthday dance, and having a small treat (goldfish crackers)!

REMINDERS:

Show & Tell presentations continue this week! Thanks to our first presenters today who did a great job! It is fun to learn new things about each other!

An important letter about Valentine's Day went home today. Please check your child's backpack!

This Friday is an AM day!
